Licensing, Betting & Gaming
Businesses operating in the leisure and entertainment industry need to ensure they have the correct licences in place. Any operator will be aware of the potential consequences and costs of errors during the licensing application process.
Our friendly and efficient team can assist you with all of your licensing requirements, from the routine through to more complex matters. We handle licensing applications, objections and appeals for a range of clients, including well-known UK companies.
The team is headed up by Partner Jane Walker who is acknowledged in the Chambers and Legal 500 legal directories.
Jane explains, “The law with regard to Licensing is quite a difficult and complex regime, especially given the recent changes introduced by the both the Licensing Act 2003 and the Gambling Act 2005. We make it our job to provide practical support and advice to our clients in a prompt and friendly manner.”
We have significant experience and knowledge meaning we can advise on all aspects of licensing, from the initial stages of making an application through to ongoing operational issues. We have represented Ladbrokes for over 30 years, dealing with licensing and compliance issues throughout England and Wales. We have vast experience in liquor licensing and act for clients on a local and national basis including breweries, hotels, pubs and major restaurant chains. In addition, we deal with licensing for casinos, bingo halls, sports facilities (e.g. golf clubs, snooker halls) and late night food outlets, including takeaways.
Jane concludes, “We offer a complete service package to clients. On top of handling licensing applications and operational aspects of licensing we also undertake advocacy work in contested hearings. To complete the offering and to help clients manage their business and keep up to date on licensing law, we can provide basic legal training and updates.”
The team includes three lawyers, two of whom are both recommended in independent guides to the legal profession.
