New Partner Strengthens the Private Client Services Group

Salisbury and Southampton based law firm Trethowans has bolstered its Private Client Services Group with the hire of Maria Shaw as Partner and Head of the newly named Wills, Probate and Trusts Team, previously called the Private Client Team.
Maria is a highly experienced private client solicitor who qualified in 1988 in London and most recently was Head of the Private Client Department with a Winchester firm. Maria specialises in wills and estate planning, estate and trust administration, preparation of Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection matters. She is a regular speaker for various organisations including retirement homes and often speaks at pre-retirement seminars.
Maria is a member of The Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners which is the “gold standard” for lawyers in this field.
Maria joins the experienced Wills, Probate and Trusts Team at Trethowans and will be based in the Salisbury office. Commenting on her arrival, Maria said, “As a Salisbury resident of many years I am looking forward to meeting and helping members of my local community. I am fortunate enough to provide a service that helps people protect and preserve the money, property and possessions that they have worked so hard to acquire. I look forward to providing this service, alongside my team, and continuing the Trethowans tradition of providing the highest standard of legal advice and guidance delivered in a personal way.”
We have taken this opportunity to rename the team to “Wills, Probate and Trusts Team” to better identify the work that the team does for the benefit of clients whilst retaining the more generic terminology ‘Private Client Services’ for the Group as this reflects the wider range of services offered by the whole group which incorporates our Family, Farms & Estates and Residential Property Teams.
Maria’s arrival has also enabled the Firm to set up a specialist Wealth Structuring and Inheritance Team under the direction of experienced Partner, Elizabeth Webbe. Elizabeth’s particular expertise is in the area of tax mitigation. Elizabeth will continue to prepare Wills, Trusts, Letters of tax advice, and tax calculations. Elizabeth also has many years of experience of dealing with the particular taxation issues for those with assets overseas, both for UK citizens and those of other nationalities and latterly the private funding of long term care.
