Financial Provision

Image of One Pound CoinsAddressing your future financial position is invariably part of the divorce process. We can advise on the division of property, capital and other assets and on your liability to make payments to your partner, or your entitlement to receive income from them.

In addition to property, savings and investments, you may also be concerned about your financial position when you retire and your pension arrangements. We can provide comprehensive advice based on your personal financial circumstances and will endeavour to achieve a negotiated financial settlement. Referrals to a Court will only be made as a last resort.

Following a major life change, such as a marriage or divorce, we recommend that you update your Will to reflect your new circumstances. Contrary to popular belief, making a Will is relatively straightforward and should not be put off as being unimportant. A Will helps to simplify the administration of your estate and remove some of the stress and worry from your family at a time of bereavement. It can also help to reduce administration costs and minimise inheritance tax liabilities through careful planning.

A Will can ensure that any children you may have are provided for, especially if you are separated or unmarried. If you are married or living with a partner you can also specify how they will benefit after your death.

Our Wills, Probate & Trusts Team has extensive experience of preparing and administering estates and trusts created by Wills or the intestacy laws. A meeting can be arranged at our offices, or we can visit you at home, to explain and prepare your Will or outline the process of obtaining Probate after the death of a relative.  Whatever your requirements, we will handle your needs efficiently and sensitively. Click here to find out more about Wills.

We recognise that cost issues are important to you and we are transparent about our fees. Before any work is undertaken we will outline what we propose to do on your behalf and provide you with written confirmation of our estimated total fees. Our charges are primarily based on the time involved and may also reflect the value of the estate. We will consult you if the total fees are likely to exceed the original estimate.
