My client employs an engineer who specialises in micro-electronics. He’s a member of a team researching and developing prosthetic limbs. The team seems close to a significant technical breakthrough.
The engineer is a New Zealander working in this country under a work permit which was expiring. How could he continue his work following the closure of the work permit scheme?
I reviewed the engineer’s job, qualifications, background and immigration history to identify options. The only option was for my client to obtain a licence to sponsor the engineer then for him to transfer into Tier 2 of the points based immigration system. I helped the client comply with the UKBA’s sponsorship management requirements then to prepare its application. I also gave the engineer guidance about the requirements he would have to meet. This ensured both applications were granted without a hitch.
