These days it’s relatively rare to have claims of direct discrimination, mainly as a result of employers and employees having a greater understanding of what should and shouldn’t be done at work; however, there are still claims that are brought under this heading.
Direct discrimination is where someone is treated less favourably because of their protected characteristic.
Claims for direct discrimination are most likely to be brought in relation to either age or pregnancy and maternity.
The first and most important thing that you should have in place to help prevent claims of direct discrimination is a clear equality & diversity policy and training for all employees.
