Their colleagues have just scaled three mountains and now a team of staff from Trethowans have followed in their footsteps having climbed one of the UK’s landmark buildings.
Employees from the personal injury team scaled the roof of the O2 on Thursday (July 28) as they help a good friend complete a charity mission.
Lady Marie Dawson-Malcolm is a peer support officer for the Spinal Injuries Association and challenged herself to go up and over the roof of the O2. The feat is even more impressive as she is a wheelchair user and staff from Trethowans helped by joining her on the day.
Lady Dawson-Malcolm suffered a spinal cord injury in 1992 and has dedicated her life to helping others ever since. As well as her role with the Spinal Injuries Association she is chairperson of her borough’s Access Association and an accessibility advisor at Network Rail. Since her injury she has studied four languages, obtained a law degree and won a scholarship to undertake an MA in International Human Rights law.
She said: “I decided that it was time for a new challenge so I made the decision to scale the O2. The Spinal Injuries Association does fantastic work in supporting people who, like myself, have been affected by spinal cord injury and I’m hoping to raise as much as possible for the charity.”
Rhiannon Daniel, senior associate in the personal injury team at Trethowans, said: “We’re big supporters of the Spinal Injuries Association and absolutely in awe of Lady Marie Dawson-Malcolm and her achievements so jumped at the chance to get involved. It was definitely a bit of a scary experience – the roof is a lot softer than you expect so it takes a while to catch your balance!”
The firm is on a mission to undertake 150 good deeds in its 150th year and the O2 climb adds to its long list of kind acts already achieved. So far this year staff have given blood, raised money for charities and undertaken a wide range of other activities to do good in the community.
