After 12 months in the role, Kelvin Farmaner, who is a partner at Trethowans Solicitors, has handed over the reins as President of the Insurance Institute of Southampton to Adam Clarke of Ageas Insurance.
The Southampton Insurance Institute has almost 3,000 members and covers a wide geographical area from Portsmouth to Salisbury via Southampton.
The Insurance Institute of Southampton dates back more than 100 years and provides a forum for all those working within the industry to develop their skills, network with other professionals, attend social events and support charities.
Kelvin’s aim for the past 12 months was to innovate with new projects whilst at the same time upholding the long tradition and history of the institute. The Institute had already started work on new projects, including joint events with The Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and a CPD conference with the Bournemouth Insurance Institute. This continued with a summer ball and over the past year the Institute went on to hold 14 different breakfast and lunchtime seminars. The best attended seminar this year was a mock trial held in conjunction with The Bournemouth Insurance Institute and supported by Albion Barristers Chambers in Bristol. Kelvin was particularly keen to run this as he had often heard insurance professionals say that their role was not really relevant when it comes to trials. However, in his experience whatever role you play whether you are an underwriter, loss adjuster or claims handler it could well play a part on the outcome of a trial.
Kelvin has been working with insurers and insurance professionals for more than 15 years - beginning his involvement with the Insurance Institute of Southampton after moving to the city from the South West of England over five years ago. He intends to remain involved with the Institute and he wishes Adam Clarke all the best for the coming year.
