Charlotte is a Trainee Solicitor and is gaining experience in four different areas of law prior to qualifying as a Solicitor in September 2018. Charlotte works under the close supervision of a nominated Partner and offers clients a more cost-effective option for legal advice.
CAREER HISTORY: Charlotte read English at the University of Southampton, before studying for the GDL and LPC at BPP in London. Her dissertation for the GDL was on Medical Ethics, whilst her electives on the LPC were Employment, Immigration and Personal Injury. Previous to being a trainee she has worked as a Paralegal and as an intern at a Legal NGO. She started her training contract in September 2016.
AWAY FROM THE OFFICE: Charlotte has a keen interest in travel, having studied in both Italy and Spain and worked in Colombia. She learns Spanish and Italian in her spare time, and is determined to be trilingual one day. Whilst at home Charlotte enjoys running, cycling and practicing yoga, and is part of her local Triathlon Club.
WHY I CHOSE TRETHOWANS: I chose Trethowans because of their strength in claimant work in their Employment and Personal Injury departments. In my Assessment Day I was deeply impressed with the team spirit and enthusiasm for the firm shown by all staff I encountered. I immediately knew this was a firm where I could develop my skills under the tutelage of specialised and experienced solicitors, and contribute to exciting work.
FAVOURITE FILM: Much Ado About Nothing – the Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh version. I find it fascinating how Shakespeare plays are adapted worldwide to represent different cultural times and paradigms, but think this more “traditional” film version with Emma Thompson’s feisty feminist Beatrice is easily the best film adaptation.
IDEAL HOLIDAY DESTINATION: The Sierra Nevada mountains in Spain – I studied Spanish in Granada, and loved the fact that in the afternoons I could travel to one of Europe’s most beautiful national parks and hike for hours. Most importantly, the concept of skiing in the morning and swimming on a warm beach in the afternoon is a genuine possibility.
-Love it or hate it?
Love it. I’ve always made visiting friends deliver a pot to me when I’ve been living abroad!
