Jon is a very experienced lawyer with extensive commercial litigation experience and a niche expertise in banking and insolvency related litigation. At his previous firm he headed up a Commercial Litigation team in Southampton and later headed up the Banking and Finance team.
Jon’s commercial experience includes contractual disputes, sale and hire of goods litigation, professional negligence claims against valuers, accountants and other professionals, partnership and shareholder disputes, and property disputes. Clients have ranged from local companies to ‘blue chip’ plcs.
On the banking side Jon specialises in complex disputes which involve advising on enforcement strategies, actions on guarantees and security realisation through court action, LPA receiverships and other insolvency procedures. Jon has represented some of the largest UK banks as well as a range of other banks, mortgage lenders and other financial institutions.
Jon has acted for numerous insolvency practitioners on personal and corporate insolvency matters. Often this is in a banking context and has involved advising on LPA receiverships and administrations, but Jon also deals with litigation arising out of bankruptcies and liquidations such as transactions at an undervalue, preferences and fraud.
Reported cases include Gibbs Mew plc v Gemmell  EuLR 588;  1 EGLR 43, where Jon acted successfully for a brewery in a leading case on the validity of beer ties under EU competition law.
Jon has been recognised in Chambers (2018) .
Jon is also recognised in the Legal 500 (2017) as a "banking and insolvency expert"
