Katherine joined Trethowans in 1999 as a Legal Secretary in the personal injury team. In January 2007 she become a Legal Assistant in the team and in June 2009 she obtained a specialist Paralegal Diploma In Personal Injury and joined as a member of The Society of Specialist Paralegals.
Katherine predominantly handles road traffic accident claims, ranging from non-fault collision through to fully contested cases. Katherine also deals with other types of accidents including tripping/slipping accidents and accidents at work. On a daily basis she negotiates with insurers and other solicitors to secure appropriate compensation on behalf of injured clients. Katherine also assists other solicitors in the personal injury team in progressing more complex cases.
Examples of how Katherine has helped clients include:
- Helped a client in an unusual and disputed accident at work claim to achieve a substantial out of Court settlement.
- Helped a client in a road traffic accident claim where the third party driver was uninsured to pursue a claim against the Motor Insurers Bureau and obtain a compensation payment.
- Representing child claimants who act through a litigation friend, normally a parent or guardian, to obtain compensation on their behalf and arranging for the compensation to be paid into the Court Funds Office earning interest until the child reaches 18 years of age when the compensation is then able to paid out to them.
Away from the office...
Away from the office Katherine enjoys going to the gym, watching films, eating out and socialising with family and friends as well as regularly going walking with her husband and dog in the New Forest.
