My client met a Russian lady over the internet. A relationship blossomed and after they’d had a holiday together they decided to get married and set up home in the UK.
My client’s fiancée retained an immigration agent in Moscow who charged her a large fee but with an assurance he would obtain a residence permit for her. The application was refused. My client lodged an appeal then retained me.
When I examined the papers it became apparent that my client’s fiancée had made the wrong application and her advisor’s attempt to get round the maintenance funds requirement was doomed from the outset. I advised abandoning the appeal and starting again with a fresh application supported by more cogent evidence. Thirteen weeks later I was pleased to meet a beaming fiancée busily planning her wedding to my client.
