Trethowans took over conduct of a case from another firm of solicitors who were not specialists in personal injury law. The case involved Mr W who was paralysed in a road traffic accident.
He was initially treated in the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Unit at Salisbury District Hospital before eventually being discharged to a nursing home. At this stage, Trethowans were able to secure a significant interim payment of damages which enabled a property to be bought and specially adapted to meet Mr W's needs. Trethowans also set up a private care regime within the home which was also funded through interim payments.
Having ensured that he had the property, equipment and care that he required, Mr W was eventually able to return to the activities that he enjoyed prior to his accident.
Court proceedings were started, however the case was settled without the need to go to trial. Mr W recovered significant damages, including a lump sum payment and annual periodical payments to ensure he could continue to fund the care he needs for the rest of his life.
Mr W comments:
"As soon as I instructed Trethowans I knew that I was in good hands. Chris Whiteley took control of my case and ensured that every aspect was covered. His attention to detail and knowledge was second to none. Chris was assisted by Rhiannon Daniel who worked hard and answered any questions I had. The two worked well together to ensure the best outcome.
There were times when I thought that my life had ended especially when I had to live in a nursing home and I had nothing to look forward to. However, thanks to Chris and Rhiannon I do have a life that is worth living. I am able to return home to an adapted house and have the care and equipment that I need to make the most of life.
My life is now better than I could have ever hoped for I am able to enjoy my raised flower beds and go on holiday and lead a full and active life.”
