United Law is a regional support network, established by Trethowans, for independent law firms in Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and West Sussex.
It’s free to join United Law and, as a member, you can refer clients when:
- you don’t have capacity to deal with the work yourself
- there’s a conflict of interest and you’re unable to act for the client
- you’re asked by new / existing clients for advice on areas of law you don’t specialise in
You can also refer clients where the value of the work exceeds your Professional Indemnity Insurance cover.
As a member of United Law you’ll be able to:
- access a wide range of legal services for your clients (if we’re unable to assist, we’ll use our best endeavours to find someone who can – in addition to our United Law members, we have links to other regional law firms running similar networks throughout the country)
- refer clients without the risk of losing them (we provide you with a written Non-Poaching Agreement, allowing you to retain your position as their preferred legal advisor)
- receive fee shares (where permitted) for matters referred to United Law where the work is undertaken by Trethowans
- receive outgoing referrals where we / other United Law members are unable to assist the client (you’re not required to pay us / the other United Law member a fee share so will retain 100% of the fees you bill)
- call our free telephone enquiry line and speak to our lawyers / management team about any legal / operational issues you require assistance with
- attend free (face to face and online) events and training sessions
