We are a forward-thinking firm that aims to provide an exceptional service to our clients and therefore we also expect our people to be ambitious and committed to excellence too.
We recognise that our people are the firm’s biggest asset and are largely attributable to the firm’s long-standing success. We value everyone that works within the business; every opinion is welcomed and valued; and everyone has a part to play.

We seek out good, friendly, and approachable people; the kind you (and we) enjoy working with. With around 260 people split across our five office locations, everyone has a part to play in our success and every opinion is welcomed and valued. We regularly celebrate long service awards and are proud to say that we have over 70 people with 10 years plus service including 20 individuals having been with Trethowans for over 25 years.
As one of the leading full-service law firms in the South, we pride ourselves on having fantastic talented people, excellent finances and we punch above our weight in terms of the clients we work with. All these things together really do set us apart from the others.
Then there are also the small things that we like to do. Like ice creams on a hot summer’s day. A team afternoon out to do something fun. After-work drinks or a rounders tournament in the park.
It would be fair to say that everything we do is designed to help build our business to stand the test of time; whatever the future holds.
We are always looking for good, hard-working and talented people to join our thriving team and so if you share our values and want to work with like-minded people, please do get in touch.
We realise the importance of having downtime and getting to know our colleagues beyond the office. You will find plenty of opportunity to mix with each other whether it’s over lunch, or at one of our firm-wide social events. You are welcome to get involved as much, or as little, as you choose.
Our Social Committee organises several events throughout the year, including a family event in the Summer, a Partners vs staff Rounders match, and a Christmas party.
In addition, there are regular opportunities to get to know your colleagues better by attending one of the regular office lunches, Management Q&A sessions or Friday drinks.
We offer more than ‘just a job’. We offer plenty of opportunities for individuals to develop and grow their career at Trethowans. Many of our Partners and lawyers are former trainees having gone through our comprehensive training programme. Our internal TOP (‘Trethowans Opportunities for Progression’) programme provides an achievable framework which sets out the criteria for promotion from newly qualified to Associate, Senior Associate and Partner.
We also actively encourage and support the development of all our staff, including support staff and those in operational support roles. Whether that is supporting a Legal Secretary to achieve a Paralegal qualification or a member of the operations team to progress within their specialised field.
There is no room for egos at Trethowans. Everyone has a part to play. Every opinion is welcomed and valued.
We seek out good, friendly, approachable people. The kind you (and we) enjoy working with.
You need a professional who takes their responsibilities seriously. Someone who understands the impact they can have. That is us.
We love a challenge. Throw us in the deep end, give us a complex problem - we will rise to it.
No bull. No nonsense. No bluff and bluster. We pride ourselves on providing advice that cuts to the chase.
With more than 150 years experience, we’ve built our business to stand the test of time; whatever the future holds.
We encourage and provide opportunities for our people to get involved in charity and community initiatives across Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset.
Trainee Solicitors at Trethowans get the best of both worlds: a firm with big clients and major ambitions, but also a tight-knit, supportive team who value each new staff member from day one.
