Changes to the EPC regulations
As of 9 January 2013, a building that is larger than 500m², is not a dwelling and is frequently visited by members of the public has a new obligation to clearly display the Energy Performance Certificate (“EPC”), if one is available.
It has also been confirmed that the following buildings are now exempt from the EPC regulations:
- protected / listed buildings where compliance with minimum energy performance requirements would unacceptably alter its character or appearance;
- non-residential agricultural buildings in use by a sector covered by a national sectoral agreement on energy performance (but no guidance is given to explain what this means); and
- residential properties used for short periods such as holiday lets.
