Clare Carter, a partner and head of the personal injury team at Trethowans Solicitors has been appointed to the AvMA clinical negligence panel.

Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) is the independent charity which promotes better patient safety and justice for people who have been affected by a medical accident. A 'medical accident' is where avoidable harm has been caused as a result of treatment or failure to treat appropriately. AvMA provides free and confidential advice and support to people affected by medical accidents, via helpline and casework service.

AvMA has established a panel of specialist clinical negligence solicitors.  To be appointed to the panel, a solicitor has to demonstrate their expertise and experience in handling clinical negligence claims and has to come through a rigorous application and interview process.

Clare Carter, who qualified as a solicitor in 1997, specialises in clinical negligence and complex personal injury claims on behalf of Claimants who have been injured as the result of accidents or medical negligence.

Clare undertakes a wide variety of clinical negligence work including birth injury, orthopaedic, delayed diagnosis and treatment of injuries and diseases (including cancer), gynaecological, surgical, vascular, cardiac and brain injury cases. She acts for both adults and children. Clare has acted for clients who have been injured by negligent hospitals, doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals. She has a particular interest in cerebral palsy birth injury cases and she acts on behalf of child Claimants with cerebral palsy in cases worth several million pounds.

Commenting on Clare’s appointment to the AvMA panel, Chris Whiteley, Senior Partner and Head of Litigation services at Trethowans said; “This appointment is a tremendous accolade to Clare and demonstrates her expertise and success in helping clients who have been injured by clinical negligence.  Trethowans has helped many clients who have suffered injuries as a result of clinical or medical negligence.  To be recognised by AvMA is a fantastic testimony to Clare’s hard work and dedication to getting the best possible result for her clients.”
