Cold calling – time to call time, please

How many times have you had that annoying and unsolicited call along the lines of “have you been injured in an accident in the last 3 years that was not your fault?”. I am afraid I, as a Solicitor, have had several calls even in the last year, despite the fact that I have not suffered an accident through anybody else’s fault for many years now.

Who are these people who make these calls and where exactly do they get our numbers from?

I really would like to know but I would be pretty sure that they are not reputable firms of Solicitors who deal with personal injury claims in a professional manner.

I am absolutely certain it is not from my firm.

Frankly it is not something the public should put up with and I find it utterly distasteful.

The insurance industry often talks about stamping out fraudulent claims. Making unsolicited calls is hardly going to stamp out fraud.

For many years Claimant’s Solicitors and organisations who represent Claimants have been lobbying the Government to make a ban on cold calling.

I recognise of course that with everything else going on during the Covid-19 public health emergency this is not high on the priority list, but it is something that needs to be addressed at some stage. I really think it is time to call an end to cold calling.
