Injury Prevention Week – do you know when a car is reversing?
This week marks Injury Prevention Week, a campaign led by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). Today APIL reveal that half of non-drivers are not able to identify a reversing vehicle.
Do you know when a car is reversing? There may seem a very obvious answer to this question for many of us, especially those of us who are drivers. However a recent study conducted by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) in conjunction with YouGov, as part of APIL’s Injury Prevention Week, has shown that less than half of non-drivers knew the answer to this question.
Answers received in the study included: “Make eye contact with the driver”; “Look for fogged windows to know someone is in the vehicle”; “Check the cars wing mirrors”; “The driver beeping their horn”; and “Using hazard lights”.
This is a staggering statistic and one which shows that, as drivers, we may take some things for granted and assume everyone around us knows what manoeuvre we are about to make. There is a duty on the driver of a vehicle to ensure that their way is clear to perform their manoeuvre safely.
If you have been seriously injured as a result of a driver’s negligence and want to enquire about making a personal injury claim then please do give us a call on 0800 2800 421 where one of the team will be more than happy to discuss your case with you.
