Proud to support Great British Beef Week

07 Mar 2013

Great British Beef Week runs from 21st – 28th April 2013. The campaign encourages people to host a roast dinner for friends, family, clubs, societies, businesses or even schools and in turn people make a collection or offer donations from their takings to support the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I.). This is a means of supporting both the British farming industry in buying and enjoying great British produce as well as supporting a valuable farming charity which exists to support farming people of all ages faced with financial difficulty.

Ladies in Beef, promoting the week, is a group of female beef farmers who care passionately about British beef. The organisation was formed to help promote and drive awareness of the quality and versatility of British beef to consumers using a country-wide network of dynamic lady beef ‘champions’. All the ladies are British beef farmers and proud of it!

Minette Batters, a founding member of Ladies in Beef, is also on the Wiltshire Committee of the R.A.B.I. Minette said, "The ‘Host a Roast’ events can take any format, large or small and organisers can invite anyone from family and friends, to colleagues or community groups. All we ask is that you serve Red Tractor quality assured British beef and that you encourage your guests to make a donation to help R.A.B.I.’s work to support farming families in financial difficulty."

Marcus Thorpe, Partner and Head of Agriculture & Rural Property at Trethowans, and Chair of the Wiltshire R.A.B.I., said of the initiative "Trethowans is proud to support the agricultural and, in this case, beef farming community. We are fortunate to have fantastic farmers that consistently provide high quality produce. We would urge everyone to get involved and ‘host a roast’ to support this initiative and raise funds for an important charity."

R.A.B.I. regional manager Jenni Thompson said "Locally, Salisbury Livestock Market have agreed to support the week, with a focal event on St George’s Day which is their usual sales day and we will be releasing more information about their exciting plans shortly. We hope to host an event at the Salisbury Livestock Centre and hope that local farmers and professionals will support this initiative".
