The Royal Wedding Knees Up

22 Feb 2011

Home Office plans to extend licensing hours over the Royal Wedding weekend have proved more controversial than you might think. There were over 700 responses to the recent consultation, with individuals and interested groups voicing a range of concerns about noise and disturbance, binge drinking and increased demands on the blue light services.

However, the Home Office has decided to press ahead; the Order to extend hours until 1am on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th April has still to be approved by both Houses of Parliament.

It is not yet clear whether the grant of extra hours will only apply to the sale of alcohol, or also extend music & dancing and late night refreshment hours. Applications for Temporary Event Notices may still need to be made, depending on your plans for the big weekend.
