I am an experienced solicitor practising in equine, insurance and regulatory law at the Trethowans law firm office in Southampton.
I have a BSc (Hons) in Equine Studies and prior to my legal career, worked with horses in various disciplines. I now specialise in equine law.
I act on behalf of clients in litigious matters relating to civil claims, including the areas of personal injury, public liability, equine and animal matters. I also assist Kelvin Farmaner in his insurance matters, both claims and disputes.
My equine and animal matters involve civil claims relating to purchase and sale disputes, riding accident and horse accident claims, veterinary negligence, negligent care claims and Animals Act 1971 matters.
I advise clients on compliance with regulatory law and work closely with Sarah Wheadon, covering all aspects of regulatory law such as health and safety, data protection, environmental, statutory nuisance claims and food safety.
I also advice clients on compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation, and responses to subject access requests.
My motoring defence work includes (but is not limited to) advising on the offences of careless or dangerous driving and driving whilst using a mobile phone.
Away from the office
Away from the office, I spend a lot of my time outdoors with my horses. I am a keen rider in the competitive discipline of eventing, and compete at both Affiliated and Unaffiliated events.
In recent years I bought a young horse which I have broken in and produced with my trainer – we are now out competing successfully. I still have regular training sessions (there is always room for improvement!) when I am not competing.
I also share this passion with my sister, so if I am not competing I will be out providing support by being her groom for the day.
Away from the horses, I also have a keen interest in all things related to food and enjoy cooking. This will normally be combined with having friends over for dinner or going out to eat, usually at a local pub near a fire place.
