I am a Partner and family mediator based in the Trethowans Winchester office, specialising in all aspects of Family Law and relationship breakdown.
I have particular expertise in dealing with divorces involving family run companies and farming assets, including trusts and inherited wealth. I have also successfully negotiated settlement terms in many cases involving military personnel and substantial pension assets.
In 2014, I qualified through Resolution as an All Issues Family Mediator. As a member of Resolution, I aim is to resolve financial and child related issues in a sensible, non-confrontational and cost effective way. I am acutely aware that the legal and financial arrangements are not the only elements to consider following the breakdown of a relationship. Equally important is how clients and their children are coping emotionally. Both in my role as a solicitor and as a mediator, I am dedicated to alternative dispute resolution, offering clients the choice to find solutions to conflict away from the Court arena, wherever possible.
Juliet has been recommended by Legal 500 (2017) as a key contact when it comes to advising individuals with companies or farming assets and handling cases involving trusts and inherited wealth.
Areas of Expertise
I recently advised a client in connection with the terms of a pre-nuptial agreement designed to protect a substantial landed estate. The client’s future wife was the beneficiary of a trust which held assets in excess of £30 million. The matrimonial home was to be a beautiful, Jacobean manor house, the principal seat of her family for several generations and the pre-nuptial agreement was being put in place at the insistence of the Trustees of the family estate. The client had assets of his own, business interests and reasonably substantial inheritance prospects, but nothing close to the value of his future wife’s financial potential under the terms of the trust. The Trustees had indicated that once the pre-nuptial agreement was in place, they would take the main house out of the trust and transfer it to the client’s future wife, absolutely. The Trustees were not prepared to take this step without a pre-nuptial agreement in place.
The client was determined to acquiesce to the wishes of his future wife’s family and co-operate with the pre-nuptial agreement. He sought to demonstrate that he was not marrying her for financial gain and he also wished to co-operate in order that his wife would benefit from receiving the main house from the trust. Additional provisions were negotiated on the client’s behalf so that the pre-nuptial agreement included mirror provisions so that the client’s assets and inheritance were equally protected and an important provision that required his wife to provide him with a house in London, in the event of a divorce. The pre-nuptial agreement was finalised and the couple went on to marry. They are now happily settled in their Jacobean manor house with their first child on the way.

Away from the office
I live in rural Hampshire with my husband, two teenage children and a large Springer Spaniel. I spend most of my free time ferrying my teenagers around, but when I get the chance, I enjoy long country walks, trips to the beach and good food.
