I am an Associate in the Private Client Team and am based in our Southampton office, though I often meet clients in our Winchester office.
I review clients’ existing Wills and also assist in the preparation of straightforward Wills and more complicated tax efficient Wills. I also advise on the preparation and registration of Lasting Powers of Attorney. I particularly enjoy assisting clients to put in place Lasting Powers of Attorney because I appreciate their importance and like knowing that my clients’ interests are protected in the possible event of loss of mental capacity.
I also provide assistance and support with more difficult and sensitive matters, such as applying to the Court of Protection in relation to Statutory Wills and Deputyship Orders. In addition to advising on Wills, Powers of Attorney and other Court of Protection matters, I also have a broad range of experience in obtaining Grants of Probate and assisting with the administration of estates, including taxable estates and estates including agricultural and business assets. My role in the team includes setting up and administering Trusts too.
I have recently become a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), having successfully completed the STEP diploma in Trusts and Estates.
Areas of Expertise
Case Study
I worked together with the firm’s Personal Injury Team, advising clients on the important role Personal Injury Settlements play in protecting their entitlement to means-tested benefits, preparing the necessary documentation and advising on the ongoing management and administration of the Settlement.
I have recently completed a set of complicated Trust Accounts.
I am currently finalising the administration an estate where the deceased’s Will provided a Life Interest Trust for the primary benefit of the deceased’s spouse – the Life Tenant – and advised the Trustees of their power to appoint part of the Trust fund to the Life Tenant. This ensured the financial security of the Life Tenant, whilst at the same time preserving the main Trust asset – the deceased’s share of the matrimonial home – for the next generation.
I provide estate planning advice to clients, resulting in the preparation of Wills and Powers of Attorney.
What others say
I am described by colleagues and clients as friendly and approachable, and am often praised for my willingness to help others. Clients are appreciative of my considerate nature and professional approach to what are usually very sensitive and emotive matters.
Away from the office
I enjoy spending time with my growing family, taking walks and exploring the outside – which often involves jumping in muddy puddles – with my son and niece. Spending time with friends and family is important to me. Myself and my husband particularly enjoy good food and wine.
