Trethowans is proud to celebrate a truly extraordinary milestone: Julie Cummings, one of the firm’s longest-serving team members, marks her 50th work anniversary on Monday 25 August 2025.

Julie joined Trethowans in 1975, a time before computers, mobile phones or the internet. Reflecting on her early days, she recalls, “Joining Trethowans back in 1975 before live streaming channels, telex machines and when manual typewriters were the norm. We even had a lovely tea lady called Ollie who did the rounds with her trolley twice a day!”

From a firm of just 50 staff in the mid-70s to over 280 today, Julie has witnessed and contributed to decades of transformation. “Big milestones over the first 20 years included electric typewriters, green-screen word processors, fax machines and chairs on castors! Who would ever have imagined back in the 70s that we’d be having meetings over Teams, using AI to produce articles and signing documents digitally?” she added.

Julie’s journey has been marked not only by technological evolution but also by deep personal and professional growth. “I was the youngest in the firm for a few years when I joined and will retire in January as the oldest! I’ve always believed it’s important to be happy at work and enjoy the company of the people you work with, life is too short to be otherwise.”

She also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Trethowans for supporting her through life’s milestones, including the births of her three children and the recent loss of her partner. “I thank Trethowans for the wonderful career it has given me, for the truly amazing and happy memories I have from my years with Trethowans.”

Mike Watson, Managing Partner at Trethowans, commented: “Julie’s dedication, warmth and resilience have been a cornerstone of Trethowans for five decades. Her legacy is woven into the fabric of our firm and her presence has enriched the lives of so many colleagues and clients. We are incredibly grateful for everything she has given to Trethowans and wish her all the happiness in her well-earned retirement.”

As Julie prepares to retire in January, she leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, laughter and leadership. “I wish Trethowans all the best for the next 50 years – I cannot think of a firm more deserving.”
