Trethowans has developed its longstanding relationship with recruitment consultant, Watford-based The MCG Group, with the successful completion of three new deals.

These follow the firm acting in a series of transactions for The MCG Group over the last few years, most recently with Lincoln-based nursing agency StaffAid in May 2021.

Following a £20m investment by equity partner Tosca Debt Capital, which Trethowans also advised on, The MCG Group has made the following acquisitions:

  • RP International: Recruitment business with group companies around the world providing agency workers and operating globally. It has placed over 8,000 people and represents one of The MCG Group’s biggest deals to date.
  • Sixth Sense Trading: Training company based in Scotland providing everything from short courses to full Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) and digital apprenticeships.
  • Jenrick Group: Recruitment specialist in the UK. Focuses on contract, interim and permanent personnel in the technology, engineering and commercial sectors.

The acquisitions form part of The MCG Group’s five-year plan, which includes ambitious growth targets and seeks to build on the foundation of its recruitment businesses by offering added value services to its customers and candidates.

Trethowans, acted for The MCG Group on all three deals, providing legal advice, undertaking due diligence, liaising with MCG’s overseas advisors and drafting the core transaction documents.

Mark Nixon, corporate partner, who led on the deals with Jonathan Sherman, an associate in the team, said: “We have a fantastic relationship with The MCG Group, which is a well-established client with an ambitious growth strategy. We have represented the company on many transactions over the years and are delighted to assist, once again, in helping it achieve its objectives.”

The deals involved a cross-section of Trethowans’ lawyers from the corporate, commercial, banking, tax and property teams.

Colm McGinley, The MCG Group’s founder and CEO, is positive: “Once again Trethowans has demonstrated the full range of its legal expertise and capabilities, providing an efficient and dedicated service, whilst putting in the hours when needed. We were very impressed and are already working on other deals with its team.”
