Trethowans continue to champion the Family Mediation Voucher Scheme during Family Mediation Week

FMW-Website

When considering the prospect of commencing divorce proceedings or entering a period of separation, it is the financial implications which cause one of the biggest worries. The current cost of living crisis is now placing separating couples under even more financial strain.

The Family Mediation Voucher Scheme is therefore a helpful resource for couples considering the mediation process. This is a Government initiative, whereby non-means tested vouchers are available to provide up to £500 towards your mediation costs.

This scheme has been set up to encourage more people to consider mediation as a means of resolving their disputes, where appropriate. With the Court system currently under more pressure than ever before, other methods of resolution should always be considered, and the Family Mediation Voucher Scheme aims to shine a light on mediation.

Eligibility for the Mediation Voucher Scheme is not based on an individual’s income. However, mediation vouchers should be used for cases where there is a private law dispute/application regarding a child, for example for a Child Arrangements Order or Specific Issue Order, regardless of whether there is an associated Financial Remedy dispute/ application.

The sum of £500 is available per case, not per individual, and a family can only claim one voucher during the life cycle of this scheme.

If this is an initiative that you would like to utilise, upon application a unique reference will be issued, confirming that the government will provide a financial contribution up to £500 towards your overall mediation costs.
