Trethowans receives multiple nominations for Solent Deals Awards

Lucy and Steve

Trethowans has been shortlisted for awards across four categories at the Solent Deals Awards 2023, including Law Firm of the Year – with two of its partners up for Lawyer of the Year.

Hosted by The Business Magazine, the Solent Deals Awards are the major corporate finance event of the year on the south coast, bringing the professional community together to celebrate the best in the Solent region, including lawyers, corporate finance advisors, bankers, accountants and more.

Trethowans is in the running for Law Firm of the Year, which will be presented to the firm which has had the most significant impact on completing deals within the region. Trethowans’ corporate and banking teams have supported banks and businesses with a range of complex and regionally important deals in 2022, working to ensure that transactions were completed swiftly and in a manner that really adds value to their clients.

Having offices across the south, Trethowans is also the only law firm to have two partners nominated for Lawyer of the Year – Lucy Gleisner (partner and head of corporate) and Steve Cole (partner and head of banking and finance). The firm is one of the few firms in the region to have a specialist banking and finance team that is separate from its corporate practice.

Lucy has worked at Trethowans for just over a decade and specialises in corporate mergers and acquisition across a range of sectors. In the eight months of 2022 that she was back at work following maternity leave, Lucy completed six deals with an enterprise value of over £50 million. She led on the management buy-out of Southampton-based marine precision engineering firm CJR Propulsion Limited, which has been nominated for Mid-range Deal of the Year.

Lucy said: “After an extremely busy 12 months, we are absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted for Law Firm of the Year and to have three of our Solent deals shortlisted across the small and mid range categories.

“However, our success wouldn’t be possible without the teamwork provided by our fellow professionals across the region which allows us to successfully complete these deals for our clients”.

Steve advises banks, lenders and borrowers on a range of financial transactions, with particular expertise in commercial finance, property finance and asset finance. He is the only banking lawyer to be nominated for Lawyer of the Year in 2023 and it is the fourth time he has been shortlisted in this category, having been named Lawyer of the Year in 2017.

Steve, who joined Trethowans in 2021, said: “Both the banking team and the corporate team have continued to be at the forefront of many of the leading deals in the region this year and it’s great to see this acknowledged by the wider corporate finance community”.

The firm is also nominated in the Small Deal of the Year category for two deals – the management buy-out of south coast metal contractor Elecon UK and the sale of Inspire Accountants to Azets.

Entries for the Solent Deals Awards have been assessed by independent judges and sponsors, with all nominations reviewed by independent judges across 14 categories. Winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony on the 23rd March at the Hilton Ageas in Southampton.
