Honor is a Trainee Solicitor based in our Southampton Office. She is currently undertaking her final seat in the Employment team, an area in which she plans to qualify.

Honor joined Trethowans in September 2023 having completed her GDL and LPC with distinction at BPP University in London. In both years she was awarded a scholarship for Career Commitment which required that she show “traits suggesting she would flourish as a legal professional”.

During her training contract, Honor has undertaken seats in Employment, Commercial Litigation and Corporate, including a 6-month secondment to Meridian Corporate Finance.

Notable work highlights

  • Preparing bundles, witness statements, statements of case and interlocutory applications for matters in the employment tribunal, county court and high court.
  • Assisting in shuttle mediations including drafting settlements and participating in representatives’ meetings.
  • Independently advising on several claims in relation to consumer rights and breach of contract.
  • Preparing training for clients on topics such as menopause, neurodiversity, performance management, disciplinary procedures, EDI, sexual harassment, and transgender awareness.
  • Researching and advising on matters of jurisdiction, including for a cross-border wrongful dismissal claim and a breach of contract claim for unpaid expenses.
  • Designing business plan templates and job descriptions for a global business.
  • Advising on the risk of unfair dismissal in incidents of gross misconduct, including the importance of following due process where the relevant employee was in prison.
  • Advising on application of TUPE, including in the context of insolvent franchisees.
  • Advising clients on the use of job families in light of equal pay laws.
  • Advising on maternity discrimination risks, including basing pay rises on pre-maternity leave performance scores and responding to flexible working requests.
  • Modelling on-call shift patterns for a key client to ensure they remained compliant with the Working Time Regulations 1998.
  • Advising on the merits of victimisation claims, including application of the bad faith defence.
  • Drafting numerous updates on key legislative changes including recent updates on the Employment Rights Bill, Fire & Rehire practices, Collective Redundancy, Statutory Sick Pay and Sexual Harassment.
