Procurement Act 2023

Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act

Finally we have also discussed previously the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act, which received Royal Assent in May 2024. This Act aims to reform the UK’s consumer and competition laws. In a statement on 9 September 2024 the Minster for Employment Rights, Competition and Markets, Justin Madders, emphasised the importance of swift implementation while giving businesses and consumers clarity on the timeline. The Government has outlined the following schedule:

  1. Parts 1, 2 and 5: To commence in December 2024 or January 2025.
  2. Parts 3 and 4: Expected to commence in April 2025, although new savings schemes rules will not commence before April 2025 and certain other elements such as subscription contract reforms and alternative dispute resolution rules have been delayed until Spring 2026 at the earliest.
